These guidelines are designed to help you shift your focus from traditional weight loss approaches to a more holistic emphasis on health and nutrition, and also to improve your chances to #livelonger
(1) Rethink Scales swap scales for more meaningful measures like waist size, ring size, and shirt size. Focus less on weighing yourself and more on how you feel.
(2) Ditch the 'C' Word instead of talking about calories, refer to weight or mass. Calories are a measure of energy and heat, not food.
(3) Forget Goal Weights, aim to be healthy, and let your body find its natural weight and shape. Focus on nourishing your body, rather than striving for a specific number.
(4) Food vs Diet swap the word "diet" with “food." Eating food is about nourishment and satiety, whereas dieting often implies restriction and control.
(5) Simplify Your Eating, consider eating whole, nutrient-dense foods, consider daily fasting, start at 12 hours and build up to 16 hours. Eat once or twice during your eating window.
(6) Watch or play sport, any sport, it doesn’t matter which one. Play if you can, depending on your physical status, you can play sport up to and beyond 100 years. If you’re unable to play, then watch it. Watching involves your mind and that’s the most important thing you should do, once your body starts to give out.
(7) Stay hydrated, drink water when you’re thirsty, ignore any special amount, just drink when you feel like it. Add a pinch of salt to your water if you’re predominantly a meat eater, to boost your electrolytes.
(8) Pet an animal, consider getting your own or make friends with someone close to you, that you can regularly interact with. Loving an animal is just about the most rewarding thing you can do.
(9) Don’t set goals, don’t arrive at destinations, rather, enjoy the journey and never reach the end of the road.
(10) Be faithful to your spouse, yourself, your community and your species. You are what you are, don’t lie or cheat, be 100% genuine, in everything you do.
NOTE: These guidelines are just what works for me. Like most people, I evolved over time and continue to learn, to this very day. Consider these my best practices.
